ZONES OF FREEDOM
At Trilby Lane Farm, we use a "gradual release model" in terms of how much freedom children are given in their choice of free play activities and areas of designated free play. Zones of freedom are earned by the child based on their ability to demonstrate their respect for rules and guidance which relate to the safety and well-being of themselves and others. At Trilby Lane Farm, we believe that Zones of Freedom are an integral part of empowering children. They are established through a relationship between caregiver and child that is founded on trust. Extending trust to children lets them know that they are valued and helps to strengthen their confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills. Zones of Freedom also allow children the opportunity to think "outside of the box" to come up with new ideas for creative play.
Young children and children new to the program begin with the first, most basic Zone of Freedom. From there, their access to additional zones will depend based on their age, their ability to self-regulate with less direct supervision, their ability to follow rules around safety and respect.
GROUP INFORMATION
We have 2 main groups during the summer. Our Nature Rangers group is intended for children between the ages of 5 and 8. Our Barn Crew is intended for children between the ages of 7 and 12. This helps to achieve better organization, planned activities that align better with children's ages and interests, and also helps to provide distinct boundaries for our groups. Throughout the week, we will also run many activities with both groups combined.
DAILY SCHEDULE
We do not have weekly themes for our summer program. Instead, we let the kids help determine their activities that week depending on their interests.
Mondays: Every Monday, our full day camp will gather to go over the rules (1. Safety, 2. Respect, 3. FUN!) Our 2 groups will then separate and create their own Bucket List for the week. This is when we ask the kids what they are most excited about for the week and they get to share their ideas for activities. This will help determine our schedule and activities throughout the week, with the goal being to check the items off their Bucket List!
WEATHER
Rainy Days: Parents are advised to dress your child(ren) appropriately for the weather. This is primarily an outdoor day camp with spaces for shelter when needed. Light or occasional rain does not have an impact on how our days operate in the summer.
Severe Weather: Trilby Lane Farm is a small independently owned business. There are many costs involved in running any business and much time and dedication that goes into planning and scheduling. Trilby Lane Farm reserves the right to postpone or cancel sessions due to unsafe weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances that may impact the well being of staff, children, or animals located on the property. Refunds will not be issued for weather related closures. Instead, a makeup day will be offered. Unsafe weather conditions include (but are not limited to): lightning and thunderstorms, high winds, forest fires, heavy rainfall, flood or wind warnings, severe heat warnings.
RATIOS AND SUPPORT
We are proud to offer low ratios that allow us to operate a fun, safe summer. Low ratios allow our staff to provide care and supervision for your children but also allows us to plan, prepare, and organize activities during the day. In registering your child for our day camp program, you are doing so with the acknowledgement that your child is able to participate in a mixed aged day camp for school aged children, under the group ratios provided. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, caring environment for all individuals (children, staff, and animals). As a small business, we do not have the funding or support to provide Special Needs Support for children with additional needs, at this time. We are more than happy to work with any support personnel that are accessible through private funding or grants. Our goals is to make this an inclusive, safe environment for all, within the financial frameworks we are currently able to provide. If you feel that your child requires additional support in order to participate in our day camp program, please speak with us to see if this program will be a good fit for your child. Individual support staff, youth workers, or other support persons in attendance with a child must do do in compliance with safety measures and guidelines set forth by Trilby Lane Farm and be in open contact with day camp staff.
Please note: All children attending our program must be able to follow rules for safety and respect. If your children is consistently unable to follow the rules, adhere to safety guidelines, or has a repetitive impact on the physical or emotional well-being of other children or staff, they may be asked to leave. All individuals on our property (human and animal) have the right to feel safe and respected. Refunds cannot be issued for these circumstances.
